✅ What Is Candidiasis?

Candidiasis refers to a fungal infection as a result of an overgrowth of Candida, which is a form of yeast that is normally found in the body.

Although Candida is not harmful in general to the mouth, gut, skin, and genital areas, overgrowth causes the infection.

Patients who have low immune systems.

Individuals undergoing corticosteroid or antibiotic therapy.

⭐ Causes and Risk Factors

Candida causes candidiasis when it grows out of control, and this is normally as a result of body imbalances:

Common Causes:

Usage of antibiotics (kills protective bacteria)

HIV/AIDS, chemotherapy, immunosuppressants.

Diabetes (high sugar levels are favourable to the growth of yeast)

The presence of moisture and friction (diaper rash)

Oral hygiene (thrush in the mouth) is poor.

Birth control (or pregnancy) Hormonal changes.

⭐ Symptoms of Candidiasis

Oral thrush (white or yellow spots).

Inflamed skin (diaper rash), red.

Sensation of being itchy or burning.

Cracked corners of the mouth

Misery in feeding (babies) or urination (candidiasis of the genitals)

In severe cases (only in rare cases), there are rare systemic symptoms (fever, malaise).

⭐ Diagnosis

Examination: White patches/ rash visible.

Microscopic testing, scraping or swabbing under a microscope.

Culture tests: To ascertain Candida species.

Blood tests: Invasive candidiasis. An infrequent indication is a blood test.
